Wedding: Reception & Details

It’s not often you have all of your favourite people in one room together. The wedding was a true celebration of love, a day filled with heartfelt moments, tears, happy laughter and an overall great atmosphere. I loved planning our wedding and all the finer details that we put into our special day.

Jake and I really want to have a barn wedding. There is just something about rustic barn weddings that we really love. Sudbury was perfect venue, we loved the neutral backdrops and how the barn provide soft, romantic light. We hired some great pieces of furniture, to create a personalized lounge/cocktail style environment. Vintage couch sets, wine barrels, lamps, burlap tables….which matched our venue perfectly along with beautiful flowers styled throughout. We decided not to have a formal seating plan so our guests can enjoy the venue while being able to mingle with other guests and sample food at their leisure.

Instead of having champagne on arrival Jake made his own homemade old fashioned lemonade and punch. We hired Shangri drink dispensers and drinking jars, styled with wooden crates and orchard fruit. The drinks were a great success! There wasn’t a drop left by the end of the night!

Our "Cocktail Reception" was a huge hit. It seems to be a growing trend, a lot of couples opting out of a formal sit down dinner, for a much more fluid and interactive cocktail party. We loved that our guests could enjoy the venue with the different areas that we had created. Guest could mingle around all while trying some of the delicious food that was being taken around.

We had a J&J logo designed to go on our invitations which ended up being a theme throughout our wedding. It also is now the logo for our blog as well!

I loved being wrapped up in my husband’s arms as we did our first dance surrounded by our closest family and friends. My heart was so happy. More about our first wedding dance coming to the blog soon. Watch this space!

Another personal touch we had on the day was Sue’s dessert table (Jakes mum), with her hand written recipes framed and her masterpieces for everyone to enjoy. This was the perfect way to remember Sue on our special day. Her own personal touch and something she would have liked to do if she was still with us today.

It was such an amazing night and the perfect ending to the perfect day! Family and friends can't stop raving about it! It makes me so happy because we definitely put a lot of effort and time into the planning process.

  1. Hi Jess, Just wondering what drinks you had in your decanters? And were they a hit?

  2. Hi Ashleigh! I just found some recipes online for homemade lemonade & perfect peach. They were a big hit, not a drop left at the end of the night :)
