Girls weekend in Bruges

When Trudy one of my besties asked me if I wanted to do a girls trip to Bruges for few days, I immediately said yes! Bruges is as every bit the fairy-tale village it claims to be! It's a beautiful medieval town, bursting with old buildings and gorgeous canals. No wonder the second name of the city is the 'Venice of the North'. I was totally charmed by the little city and could not stop taking pictures of all the buildings and the super cute cobble stone streets. I don’t really know why I love brick buildings so much, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that we don’t really have many in New Zealand.

While exploring this city we managed to stumble across Oyya, a super cute ice cream bar where new flavours a produced every day. Naturally, I couldn't resist the fresh raspberry while Trudy decided to try a waffle which Bruges is famous for.

We made friends with one of the locals, he's a rather cute resident and also a bit furry....We decided to name him George and he was a natural in front of the camera!

After working up an appetite wondering around little cobblestone streets. We found this cute restaurant which is in the Markt square and has gorgeous views over nearby buildings. We decided to try the traditional Belgian mussels and frites!

After waking up bright and early the next morning keen to explore as much as we could. We walked in Markt Square to find them busting with stall markets. The flowers were beautiful and the strawberries the biggest and reddest I think I've ever seen. The perfect place to grab a bite to eat for breakfast!

Next stop was one for the Hubby......Beer! Another thing Bruges is famous for. Now I may no a thing or two about shoes, but beer I have no clue about! But the store owner was so helpful and helped me pick out a selection of favourites...needles to say the hubby was very pleased and I earned a few wifey points!

Their are many ways to explore Bruges you can take a tour in one of the beautiful canal boats or take a horse dawn carriage around the city. Trudy was feeling like a biker in her new leather jacket so we decided to hire bikes and cruise through the streets like the locals.

There was one more thing we needed to tick off before leaving Bruges and that was CHOCOLATE!!!It is not possible to stroll more than five yards in Bruges without coming across a chocolate shop. Belgian chocolate is to die for–my mouth is literally watering even as I think about it!

I suppose my main tip for anyone wanting to explore Bruges is to do just that - explore. Everything is in walking distance to the centre. Just walk around the streets and see what you can find. You won't get bored, there's markets, chocolatiers, souvenir shops, beer tours, tourist tours. See what you fancy and go for it!
