J&J's Day trip to Brighton

Brighton is a cute little seaside town on the south coast of England which all of London flocks to when the sun comes out! Jake having visited Brighton before was the perfect tour guide! Brighton is only an hour by train from central London. Two minutes from Brighton's train station is "The Lanes". These narrow alleyways near the seafront are famous for it's brightly painted houses, cute antique shops and cafes. I could have stayed and wandered for hours but my stomach was telling me it needed replenishing.

First stop was coffee!! We headed towards Jake's favourite cafe Pelicano which he claims does the best coffee in Brighton! We also got some yummy sourdough toasted sandwiches. Over brunch Jake tired to convince me that we should actually move to Brighton. He even used bribes like "you can get a puppy if we lived in Brighton". But I actually have to say he didn't really need to convince me at all because Brighton is beautiful and I was already envisioning living there myself!

After brunch we headed towards the seaside and took a stroll along the promenade. It was all I imagined it to be! Cute little boat houses, fishermen selling their morning catch, rental deck chairs so you can enjoy the view from the "stoney" beach and lots of eateries and entertainment. It wasn't the hottest of days but we managed to spot a few swimmers out in the water!

It's seems like the must have fashion accessory in Brighton, is a dog! On our walk along the seaside we made friends with this lil cutie. His name was Wolf and reminded Jake of his own childhood pet huskey.

While meandering along the waterfront we walked past the remains of Brighton's West Pier which was built in 1866. Even though the pier is no longer used, there is something quite romantic about it's glorious shell and bare bones that have withstood all adversity.

We tried a few fresh oysters from the seafood cart and then headed to a beach side restaurant for burger's and fish & chips. This was conveniently located right next to the "Punch and Judy" puppet show.

No trip to Brighton would be complete without visiting the famous Brighton Pier with it's lively funfair where we enjoyed the carnival atmosphere.... Candy floss, donuts, waffles and ice cream, merry-go-rounds, roller coasters, game arcades and crowds... So much fun!

One day isn't enough to see all of Brighton (there are some coffee and cake places I need to come back for), but there's a lot you can see and do just by walking around. Since it's so close to London, I would say it's the perfect day trip if you want to escape the city in the summertime.
