Wairarapa Eats

You guys asked for it! Check out the short reviews of the cafes and restaurants below and decide where to eat out today! Highchairs? Changing facilities? Who does fluffies? The Wairarapa is filled with gorgeous places to eat - from bistros and vineyards to artisan bakeries. Here is a list of our favourite Wairarapa eats. Jake and I are big foodies and we are always looking for family friendly places. Whether you're popping out for a coffee or off for a family meal, finding a place that caters for small kids will help make life more enjoyable for everyone. Of course we are always trying new places and love supporting local so you can expect this blog post to grow over time.

Our tried and tested local bakery which is in an old renovated church. Clareville Bakery is home to award winning pies, and some of the best artisan bread and European-style pastries you can buy. Oh and don't forget their cronuts! You have to try them if you are ever near this place. They are irresistible! Clareville Bakery also has an outside playground for kids along with a kids play section inside to keep your little ones entertained. We find ourselves here regularly and love to come here for brunch. They also do great fluffys for the kids and have changing facilities.

Greytown’s newest restaurant situated right on the main street, with an outdoor courtyard that is well utilised over the summer months. Pinocchio is a family owned and operated restaurant established by husband & wife, Paul & Elly Ansell. The restaurant itself has a cosy, relaxed feel to it. They are also very family friendly providing highchairs, along with coloring books and pencils for the children. They also have changing facilities. We love coming here and always have a hard time deciding what to order as everything sounds mouth-watering. They have a great kids menu and every dish we have tried here has been exceptional!

The White Swan sits right in the heart of Greytown, making it the perfect place to stay or eat while exploring one of New Zealand's prettiest towns with its Victorian buildings and tree lined streets. This is the best spot in Greytown to people watch and enjoy a drink or two. We loved how family friendly this place is. They provide a kids menu and they have high chairs, changing facilities and toys for young children. They are also lucky enough to have a park right next door for the kids to run around in. The White Swan have an excellent menu and a good selection on local wines. Everything is locally sourced from here in the Wairarapa.

This is one of our tried and tested favourites and we always find ourselves coming back as they are always so welcoming and family friendly. The winery itself is beautiful. A big fireplace promises warmth for cooler weather and of course there are outdoor tables and umbrellas for summer. Did I mention they do Asian fusion sharing plates?! Not every winery welcomes children, but this one certainly does! The winery is so kid-friendly, that during the tastings, kids can enjoy juice and snacks and while the adults sip and chat there are plenty of toys to keep them entertained.

Love pink and pizza?! Then Cuckoo Pizza in Greytown is a must stop. We love their quirky style. They are also child friendly providing high chairs and toys and they have the most delicious pizzas in town! The lovely courtyard at the back provides the perfect spot for the kids to run around in. They also do takeaway pizzas so you can enjoy their yummy pizza’s right from the comforts of your own home if you don't fancy heading out.

The Offering has become one of our favourite places to stop in for breakfast, lunch or even just a fluffy date with our little man. We love the warm atmosphere of this place. It's also super child friendly with a great little play area and sunny courtyard with beautiful trees for shade out the front and changing facilities. If you are passing through Greytown and in need of a meal you can't go past The Offering.

Moy Hall is a laid back family-run winery and a great spot to take the family especially on a beautiful sunny Wairarapa day. This is a popular spot so best to book in advance. They also have loads of kids toys for the little ones and plenty of grass for kids to run around, lots of outdoor seating and umbrellas for shade. You can’t go wrong with the big comfy bean bags and they provide high chairs for the little ones. They do a selection of sharing plates and their menu changes seasonally. We absolutely love the food here!

Good Times Food Truck

Probably the coolest and hippest spot in the Wairarapa to grab a bite to eat. An old 1971 Bedford food truck parked up on the square in Martinborough. They also have an inside area if the weather is not nice, along with board games and table tennis to entertain the kids. They send out weekly menu updates on their social media and are well known for their yummy Thai pancakes and scrumptious donuts! They also do private catering which is perfect for kids birthday parties!
