Birthday Staycation in the Wairarapa

Tucked away in the hills overlooking the South Wairarapa Coast, is a charming little hut called, Kaikoura Lookout. The perfect place to relax and unwind and have a mini getaway to celebrate my birthday!

We loved our drive out to the coast. It's such a beautiful part of New Zealand. Once we arrived at Palliser Ridge Farm we were greeted with farm animals and some of the best views. From the moment we pulled up at the hut I knew this was going to be amazing.

It seems that ‘staycations’ are on the rise and you can see why when it looks like this….

The hut itself is situated amongst the wetlands with views out to the Kaikoura Ranges and Palliser Bay. The wooden interior and modern décor is complimented by beautiful hand-made knitted woollen cushions and rugs. With a cosy fire place, indoor bathroom and kitchen right at your fingertips this makes for a luxurious and comfortable stay. The icing on the top was the hot tub overlooking native bush and a stunning coastline!

Kaikoura Lookout is all about being off the grid and taking time out from a busy life, filled with hustle and bustle. However, the hut does have a solar powered system allowing for the basic charging of phones and other small items to keep you in touch with the outside world.

Once we settled in we made up some platters with some of my favourite snacks and enjoyed this on the balcony taking in the amazing views of the rolling hills and blue sea. Jake got the fire started so that the hot tub would be ready for later that afternoon as it can take a couple hours to heat up.

Once the sun started to go down we all jumped into our togs and into the hot tub…Complete bliss! We watched the sun set till the sky turned pinker and pinker and then we were plunged into darkness, surrounded by stars. What an awesome and humbling experience to enjoy before jumping into our cosy, comfortable bed.

I woke up to the sound of the birds and the smell of pancakes cooking for my birthday! We loved that the hut had a full kitchen with a gas cooker. This meant that we (and by we, I mean the hubby) could cook scrumptious meals during our stay. Kaikoura Lookout made the ultimate birthday getaway. It's the ideal place for those looking to enjoy a weekend escape, celebrate an anniversary, or relax with a post-wedding wind-down. Breathe the country air and immerse yourself in nature....Heaven!

It is also in the perfect location as there is heaps to do in the area including exploring the wineries in Martinborough or going for a walk through Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve and of course you can’t miss the Cape Palliser lighthouse where you will also find North Island's largest fur seal colony.

Turns out you don’t have to go far from home to reconnect with the world and all its beauty.

I feel pretty lucky to call Wairarapa home.
